Wow! Here we go! Time to start a new semester and the LAST
semester living the “single” life! This semester I am super excited to start! I
get to be a nerd again because I get to… drum roll please… START MATH
AGAIN!!!!! Out of all my classes I think I am the most excited about working
with numbers and a calculator again! I am a nerd, I know! I also get to learn
Spanish and for my religion class, read Pearl of Great Price. I am excited
about my religion class because one, I am taking it with my best friend Janae
and second, it will prepare me to go to the temple for the first time! Also, by
the end of this semester I will have my Associates in General Studies. SAY
WHAT??!?! I only have two more years/four more semesters and I will be done
with school! Crazy?! Where has the time gone!
Also this semester I am starting a new job! I will be a peer
advisor for the Pathway Program. Now you might ask what is the Pathway Program…
well let me tell you! It is this amazing program that BYU-I started less than a
year ago. The program makes it possible for people in the US and around the
world to earn a degree from BYU-I without EVER stepping a foot on the BYU-I
campus. It is a great program especially for those that are moms, do not have
the money to come to the school, and those who never had the opportunity to
finish their degree. It opens the door for so many different opportunities for
those especially in Africa and Mexico. Having that little bit of extra education
in those countries can make all the difference in their social status. All
those in the program will be able to provide for their families better and
confidence levels will fly! My job is to help the students with getting into
the correct classes, answer any questions they have, and help them do certain
activities. I will have a group of students and I will have them for the next
three semesters. I am so excited to be working with this program. I personally
believe that it will change many lives and will grow into a great program that
will be in every country and state soon! If you want to learn more about this
program you can go to, byui.edu/pathway
Now just a side note… I am also excited for this semester to
end because Adison and I get married in August!!!!!
Any who, last week I went home and boy did I get a lot done!
Friday was filled with wedding stuff with my mom, a yummy lunch at the Tea
Room, seeing old high school teachers, getting my wedding dress fitted (I know
that goes with wedding stuff, but that deserves its own thing!), and of course leaving
for the cruise!!!!!
As a family we went on a cruise for our last family
vacation! Ok, so it’s not really the last family trip but it’s the last time
before I get married and Ben goes off to the Army. Early Saturday morning and
part of Sunday we drove down to New Orleans. Sunday was filled with living the
New Orleans life, minus the beer! New Orleans is a very interesting, crazy,
weird, scary, cool, (place any word you want here), place ever! We went to the
French Quarter and took a tour around the town. It was really neat seeing the
old buildings and the history the town has. Monday afternoon we finally got on
the cruise. Now I was very nervous about taking this trip. I was scared I was
going to get stuck in the middle of the ocean! But it ended up being a really
fun trip! Getting a three-course meal every night for dinner was very nice!
Also, having my bed made every morning and then the covers turned down every
night for bed, that was a luxury because I NEVER make my bed. Of course, just
being with my family was great too! While on the cruise we stopped in Progreso
and Cozumel Mexico. In Progreso we had
the opportunity to see the Mayan Ruins. These huge buildings with the amazing
carvings in them were really cool to see. The next day we got to go to Cozumel,
this was my favorite day! Swimming in the Ocean is probably one of the coolest
things. We got to snorkel and see these beautiful big and small fish. Also, the
beach we went to has these statues in the ocean. One is called the Golden Christ.
If you touch it, it brings you good luck! I really wanted to touch it but I was
a little nervous! But after some encouragement from my dad and this very nice
old guy, I took a big breath, dove down and touched the golden statues’ beard!
Call me lucky :) ![]() |

Today as I fly home to Rexburg I am reminded of the many
blessings in my life, but especially for the people in my life. I am so
grateful for my family, my Dad who keeps me laughing and always encouraging me
in every aspect of my life; my Mom who is always there to listen and help me
through my problems. Ben for his bravery, and for his service that he will perform
while he is in the Army, and Amanda’s passion in everything she starts, but
especially her passion for protecting the earth and the creatures on it. I am
also grateful for my soon to be family and the support and prayers they give to
Adison and I. I am thankful for my best friend, Adison. I am grateful for how
charitable, caring, and thoughtful he is. And last but not least, I am grateful
for my roommates. They are great! I know I can always count on them to help me and
listen to me. Love life, that’s all I got to say!
